Find Your Fit

IMAGE.JPG

Have you ever reached for your screwdriver only to discover you’d attached the wrong bit? The right bit matters. The right bit fits. It gets the job done. Big job, small job, it doesn’t matter. If the tool isn’t the right tool the job isn’t getting done.

You matter too. And you fit. You fit somewhere. You were made with something in mind for you. You fit. And if it sounds like I’m calling you a tool—well I guess I am. I’m sorry about that.

You fit. Get to your place. Find your fit. Go where it works for you and where you work. Get to the place where the good stuff God put inside you can be unleashed in order to make everyone around you better. Do it.

If you haven’t found that place yet, that’s ok. Keep looking. Keep working. You will. It’s out there.

You might find that it doesn’t look like you thought it would. But it’s there. And when you discover your fit it’s amazing. Go for it.

Where Your Heart Is: A Christmas Blog

/home/wpcom/public_html/wp-content/blogs.dir/2f3/26858223/files/2014/12/img_9194.jpg Where is your heart? No, I don't mean nestled beneath your sternum somewhere between your lungs and whatever is over on the other side. Not that heart. You know! Your heart. The metaphysical linchpin of your soul that drives your desires, captains your cares, and pushes your passions.

Where is it? Where does it lay? Where does it stop? Where does it rest? Where does it ache for, hurt for, beat for?

Stop and think about the answer for just a moment. Now check out what Jesus had to say in Matthew chapter six.

It’s obvious, isn’t it? The place where your treasure is, is the place you will most want to be, and end up being. (‭Matthew‬ ‭6‬:‭21‬ MSG)

So, does where you initially thought that your heart was actually line up with where you are—with where you spend your time. If not then maybe it's time to give that discrepancy some careful examination. Perhaps there is an absolutely legitimate reason (you know, like a time consuming career) why the two would be different. Or, it could be that where you think your heart is, and where it actually is, is not quite in line. But that's an easy fix. Knowing really is half the battle. And if there is a difference there that you're not crazy about ask God to help.

Jesus was the answer to where God's heart is. He treasures us—and so he came to be with us.

Merry Christmas.

August 29 - As You Will

Matthew 26:36-46

And going a little farther he fell on his face and prayed, saying, “My Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as you will.” (Matthew 26:39 ESV)

The will is a powerful thing. There are moments in life when strength is diminished, opportunity is dwindling, or resources are exhausted. In those moments it seems as though will alone is what can carry you through to completion. Unfortunately we all too often focus our will on something selfish. We spend ourselves on something that is less than that which God intended for us.

Jesus knew what weighed in the balance. As he cried out to God the Father from the garden that night long ago he expressed his desire to be spared a terrible ordeal. Yet, he also communicated his truthful yearning to see God's will through to the intended result.

It took the will of the Son to bring about the will of the Father. And I really believe that there are moments and opportunities in life where God allows us to experience what it means to partner our will with His will. I think there are things God intends to happen in our lives that can be hastened along when we take our will and subject it to His. Sometimes our most powerful prayer is, "not as I will, but as You will."
